"We would have deserved one point"

The LASK had to make the journey back from Styria without any points in their luggage after a 0-1 defeat against SK Sturm Graz on Sunday. Our athletes quickly shifted their focus to the next top match in the championship group coming up next Friday against RB Salzburg.

The first defeat in the Bundesliga final round (match report) could have been avoided, considering the available opportunities to equalize in the second half. "The chances in the second half were well created. We were good for a goal," said midfielder Valon Berisha, who came on at halftime.

In the first half, the athletes, with Moses Usor playing his 50th competitive match and Sascha Horvath captaining for the first time, struggled to get into the game. "We could have played more bravely there, didn't get Sturm moving enough, and didn't find the shifts. Upfront, we didn't hold onto the ball enough," analyzed coach Thomas Sageder, whose team improved in the second half and was able to generate much more pressure.

Third home game against Salzburg

This was also reflected in the statistics, which showed advantages for the athletes in terms of possession, pass accuracy, and duel success rates, but unfortunately didn't translate into results. "We startet to move the ball better and created some clear chances, unfortunately we couldn't finish them. We need to learn from these things," said left-back George Bello, adding, "A point would have been deserved for sure."

However, the schedule demands quickly moving on from the defeat and focusing entirely on the next top match on Friday (19:30). Table-toppers RB Salzburg (buy tickets now) will be visiting the Raiffeisen Arena - for the third time in the current spring season, following the cup quarter-final and the return match in the basic round.

For the first time in five away games, Andres Andrade (left) and LASK were unable to secure any points.
