Transfer coup: LASK signs World Cup champion Jerome Boateng
World champion, two-time Champions League winner, and nine-time German champion – with his impressive track record, Jerome Boateng is considered a standout figure in international football. Now, LASK has managed to bring the long-time FC Bayern defender to Austria. The 35-year-old German has been given a two-year contract, signing until the summer of 2026.
For the second time this summer, LASK has made a significant move in the transfer market. By signing the 2014 World Cup champion, the club has achieved a genuine transfer coup. The impressive resume of the central defender speaks for itself: starting his career at Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV, followed by a stint abroad with Manchester City, Boateng wore the FC Bayern Munich jersey for ten years from 2011 to 2021, playing a total of 363 competitive matches, including 85 in the Champions League. He then spent two more seasons at Olympique Lyon, and last spring, he played in Serie A with Salernitana.
His track record is equally remarkable: Boateng won the UEFA Champions League title twice with Bayern, along with two Club World Cup triumphs, two UEFA Super Cup victories, nine German championships, and five DFB-Pokal victories. He also won the FA Cup with Manchester City. In 2016, he was named Germany's Footballer of the Year. Two years earlier, Boateng was a starter in all seven games during Germany's World Cup-winning campaign in Brazil. The exceptional 1.92 m tall defender has made 76 appearances for the German national team. He has been ranked as "world-class" three times by the German football magazine "kicker."

It is absolutely incredible and unbelievable that we have been able to bring Jerome Boateng, such a highly sought-after exceptional player and model athlete, to LASK. He had numerous, highly lucrative offers. The fact that we were able to secure him and that he decided to move to Upper Austria was only possible because he fully supports our vision and has prioritized the sporting path over his financial interests. He has made significant financial concessions for us, otherwise, his signing would not have been possible. This demonstrates his exceptional character, and for that, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to him and his management.

It is a great honor for us that a player of his caliber has chosen us, and it highlights the progress we have made as a club in recent years. Jerome, as one of the best central defenders in the world, has shaped football for many years. He is an exceptional personality who always strives for maximum success, as was evident in our conversations with him. With his footballing skill and unparalleled experience, he is not only a tremendous asset for us but also for Austrian football as a whole.

I look forward to my time at LASK with great anticipation. The club's management made tremendous efforts to secure me and conveyed from the very beginning that they wanted me to be part of their journey. I had numerous offers, but I consciously chose LASK because the sporting path, the idea, and the visions of the club fully convinced me. For me, this holds significantly more importance than the financial aspect. The club has built something significant in recent years, and with my experience, I want to help LASK take the next steps. I am full of enthusiasm and will do everything in my power to be as successful as possible together with LASK.
