The Big Goal in Sight: LASK Aiming for Final Berth
Everything is set for a cup spectacle at the Raiffeisen Arena: In their home match against Wolfsberger AC on Wednesday (6:15 PM, live on ORF 1), LASK is aiming for their seventh final appearance in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. "This is a big deal. Our clear goal is to win the game and reach the final," emphasized midfield engine Ivan Ljubic ahead of the semifinal clash against the Carinthians.
LASK has reached the final of this competition six times in history, with their crowning achievement coming exactly 60 years ago when they claimed the cup title. To keep their chances of repeating this triumph alive and reach the final in Klagenfurt for the first time since 2021, they must first overcome the hurdle of Wolfsberg. "I am full of confidence. We know we’re facing a very tough opponent, but we’re playing at home, and with our fans behind us, we want to make it to Klagenfurt," stated forward Maximilian Entrup.
It will likely take a hard-fought effort, especially given that Wolfsberger AC—currently fourth in the championship group—has been in excellent form in recent weeks. In their first five competitive matches of the year, the Lavanttaler scored three goals in each, winning four of them. Most recently, they held SK Sturm to a 1-1 draw. However, LASK has also been in top form despite missing suspended Melayro Bogarde. Since the turn of the year, they have lost only one of their eight matches, winning four of their last five league games. That includes their recent 2-0 victory in Altach at the start of the qualification group, where Andres Andrade celebrated his comeback with a goal, and Krystof Danek netted his first-ever goal for LASK.
Positive Memories of the Only Cup Clash
LASK paved their way to the semifinals with away victories over Union Gurten, Sportunion Mauer, and ASK Voitsberg, followed by a home win against RB Salzburg. Wolfsberger AC, on the other hand, defeated ASV Draßburg and SV Wallern before advancing past Austria Klagenfurt in a penalty shootout and securing a home victory over SW Bregenz. Now, the two clubs meet for the second time in the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. LASK holds positive memories of their first encounter, having secured a 1-0 victory after extra time in Wolfsberg in 2021 to book their place in the final.
LASK’s previous final appearances came in 1999 with a 2-0 semifinal triumph over SK Rapid, in 1970 after a draw-lot decision against SW Bregenz, in 1967 with a dominant 5-0 win over Schwechater SC, in 1963 with a 3-2 victory at Kapfenberg, and in their historic 1965 campaign with a 2-1 win at the old LASK-Platz against Admira Energie Wien.

We have the opportunity in front of our home crowd to take a big step and reach the final. Our opponent is having a really strong season and is very solid in their approach. There are reasons why WAC is where they are in the table. However, over the past weeks and months, the team has given me a clear sense of their determination to make it to Klagenfurt. To achieve that, we need to give everything for 90 or even 120 minutes.
