LASK's home performance in the 5th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga against Wolfsberger AC went completely off track. After a weak display, the athletes, who were down to ten men following Sascha Horvath's red card in the 39th minute, suffered a 1-5 defeat to the Carinthians in front of 10,200 spectators at the Raiffeisen Arena.

With Jerome Boateng, Tomas Tavares, and Tomas Galvez making their starting XI debuts, and Rene Renner making his first Bundesliga appearance since December 2023 after recovering from injury, LASK fielded a reshuffled lineup. The athletes made their first attempt on goal in the 7th minute with a Boateng header from a corner, but it was the visitors who took the lead after 14 minutes with a long-range shot. Simon Piesinger put Wolfsberger AC ahead 1-0 with a direct volley. The goal seemed to shock the Linz side, who struggled in all aspects and rarely threatened the goal.

In contrast, the Lavanttaler posed a constant danger, particularly on counterattacks, with Angelo Gattermayer creating two more good chances. Both times, LASK goalkeeper Jörg Siebenhandl prevented a bigger deficit, but after half an hour, he was helpless for the second time as David Atanga tapped in a cross from the right at the far post. Things got worse for the Upper Austrians: in the 39th minute, Sascha Horvath mistimed a tackle and caught his opponent's leg, leading to his dismissal by referee Daniel Pfister.

Two Quick Goals Conceded After the Break

LASK began the second half with a double substitution, bringing on Moses Usor and Lenny Pintor for Tomas Tavares and Tomas Galvez. However, instead of launching a comeback, the team quickly suffered two more blows. Just three minutes after the restart, Maximilian Ullmann finished off a fast counterattack to make it 0-3 in the 48th minute. Only two minutes later, after a free kick, the ball found its way to Ervin Omic, whose shot was inadvertently deflected into the net by Rene Renner for an own goal.

By the 68th minute, LASK coach Thomas Darazs had used all his substitutions, but it didn't change the nature of the game. The only notable offensive moment for LASK was a shot by substitute Usor that grazed the crossbar. The next goal, however, came from Wolfsberger AC again, with Ullmann scoring his second of the match five minutes before the end. In stoppage time, Marin Ljubicic converted a penalty after George Bello was fouled, reducing the scoreline to 1-5 – the final blow on a difficult afternoon at the Raiffeisen Arena. LASK now heads into the first international break of the season.

Today was a weak performance in every respect. Since the defeat against Altach, there has been a sense of insecurity within the team. We were ruthlessly punished for our mistakes today. We need to address this during the international break.
